Different diagnosis by private psychologist/ Nhs

Today at sensory assesment OT suggested Ados for ds ( almost 3) to test for ASD..Actually she seems pretty sure ds is on the spectrum. As an excellent private psychlogist ruled out 'typical' autism some time ago (Griffits test- she thinks ds has excellent joint attention) it came as a bit of a suprise, but will give it a go. Ds at the moment labelled GDD has got significant motor skills delay (started walking independently recently) for some reason I always presumed Asd kids are usually not delayed as much. Private psychologist will do another review plus new aba/play therapy/floor time programme in a few weeks time... I wonder does it happen that private/nhs arrive at different diagnoses?

Ask 10 different professionals for an opinion and there is a chance you will get 10 different answers. As children grow up then certain characteristics can become more clearly defined and then it may become a little easier for everyone to see the whole picture. Has your son seen a developmental paediatrician?

No, just a regular paeditrician, the developmental one will see him for the first time during the assesment... And they give diagnoses on the spot the same day...

I'm sure I read somewhere that the ados isn't as accurate if the child has motor delays as it complicates things
