hi I have a 5 YR OLD ds whos main difficulties are language impairment and development delay and also awaiting assessment from ot.
anyway he attended ms from nursery through reception and basically they did everything to get him out saying they could not meet his needs buthe was progressing with full one to one support, I fought to keep him there but they tried everything to get him out. In a caf meeting autism was mentioned and they said they thought thats what he had so I spoke to paed who disagreed anyway paed agreed to put referral through to get school to back off but made it clear in his letter to camhs he did not agree.
anyway fast forward months and today was first appoitment with cahms. when i got there they said it was basically a choice app and wasup to me whether to go ahead as they could see ds was well cared for and recieving the help he needs at this present time.
I agree that i do not want dx yet,i honestly cannot say why i feel this way maybe im just scared i dont know and also I know what ever dx he has is not going to change him or the problems he has.
I guess i am just asking if i have done the right thing in waiting as i feel horrible for wasting anyones time when i know that many ppl in that position would jump at the chance.
I must say ds has a statement and from sept he will be attending a ss fulltime and having all his therapy and help in one place and camhs did say they would keep him on system for to get referral in future, I would also like to know how did any of your children get dx with autism
does it have be down the camhs route or can someone else dx. sorry for the long rambling post.
