Got a letter from the DLA

They're contacting the nurse/dr for more information. Not sure if this is a good sign or not? A friend said I won't get any benefit as ds2 isn't diagnosed yet (ASD)? Her ds had to be but he's on high level and mobility. I can only hope? It's difficult getting a job when I'm up in the night with ds2 so a bit of extra cash will help greatly, especially with school bus money that works out £95 a term for each ds. Plus ds2 needs a new mattress and I want to get him a weighted blanket to try to help with his sensory problems at night.

We got higher rate care before DD was DXed, it's based on extra care needs not DX :)

CuriousMama · 22/07/2012 21:09

Thanks for that. We won't get higher rate care as ds2 isn't really hard to look after it's mainly nights. I feel so sorry for him, he thinks snakes are on him Sad I'll be happy if we can get low rate as that will go towards helping him.

I'm glad to hear you got some help Fanjo. How is you dd?

We got medium rate care last year without a dx. I just listed all the extra stuff we have to do for him and really didn't expect to get anything so it was a pleasant surprise. Wish I had done it years ago. Hope you get the help you need.

DD is fine and happy, but an immense amount of work day and night, am frazzled. She is at a wonderful school though

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 22/07/2012 21:23

(DD now has severe autism DX)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 22/07/2012 21:24

Higher rate is because you need extra care days and nights so you never know, will cross fingers for you

CuriousMama · 22/07/2012 21:27

Thanks Cilla and Fanjo.

So glad to hear your dd is in a good school Fanjo. I can imagine how hard it is for you, my nephew has severe autism, no speech at all. My niece's son also has autism and adhd and has just got into a great SN school where he's much happier. There are so many boys with ASD in my family. And it seems one girl now as another niece's dd may have it?

Dd2 got hers before her dx of autism. She has other dx too, but DLA is based on care needs not dx.

CuriousMama · 22/07/2012 21:42

Thanks lisad123.

Its about the amount of times you need to give that extra care in the nights ...

CuriousMama · 23/07/2012 12:20
