Took DD for first 'tea outing' in over 3 years

To a very sympathetic and amazing friend's house (her DD also has special needs). She had gone to so much effort and put stairgates up etc and cleared surfaces. I am on such a high. I took BOTH my children OUT after 4pm and WE ALL HAD A GOOD TIME! HURRAH!!!!!!!
I was so jubilant driving home.

well done JakB. Having houses like that you can go to make such a difference (we have 1 and a half- the half is very welcoming, but an NT family so completely not safe for ds1- no bolts on doors etc so we have to follow him the whole time, the 1 has an autistic escapee dd so we can really relax there).

When are you going again? :o

Ah, what lovely messages! She is such a special friend and we are going to do it once a month as a regular thing. I'm now looking for other 'safe' houses to invade for tea visits Grin

Yes, friends who UNDERSTAND are gold dust. She's also very, very good at giving me confidence and making me push my psychological limits with DD. For instance, I was in a panic about Liv going into her kitchen. She questioned this as her DD goes in there and is fine. DD did go in, actually managed to suss out the stairs leading down were dangerous and only fell once and was OK. I couldn't believe it. I think I panic too much about what MIGHT happen. Probably because DD has got into so many scrapes in the past (walking around with knives, escaping through front door and crossing the road, falling head first off a table etc etc). But she is getting better

I've got a great friend who knows without being asked to lock the front door and hide the cat litter! I've never seen her worry about anything ds does at her house, except when he tried to use the tortoises as stepping stones Blush
