Today my boy turned 7. About now I cleaned my teeth on the morning he was born. It made me sick and my waters broke all over my cat LOL. DH flew up the stairs looking at the rather bewildered soggy cat zooming down the stairs Grin

I had nearly lost him once before and thought in amazment that we had made it this far. Then the decision not to turn him 4 weeks before as something was telling me leave alone whats content. Did I do the right thing I worried.

Manic trip in car due to the emergency of it and him being wedged breach. Manic wait when the cow of a MW forgot to report me in and so I didnt get the EMCS till 5 hrs later how I held him in and he didnt break his little legs coming out I dont know.

DH looking like a shrunken George Clooney in an oversized theatre outfit with flip flops and at 3.20 my lovely son arrived and was told he had 2 true knots in his cord. I am glad I didnt agree to let them try to turn him. I think my boy has 9 lives and here he was 6 weeks prem.

1st August his official due date he opened his eyes to the world and his inquisitiveness hasnt stopped since.

We have had a hell of a time as a family and he has had a hell of a time with school.

Today the best present of all is my boy went to a transition meet at his Junior school armed with his birthday badge and his camera. They all greeted him with cameras of their own to make a huge scrap book.

DS was SMILING! xxx

Happy Birthday DS we are glad you came to us x

moosemama · 20/06/2012 10:53

Of Coff you've given me goosebumps and a lump in my throat. What a beautiful post. Smile

With that sort of welcome and his lovely new TA, he's going to love junior school so much. He's been through so much with that other school with people who frankly shouldn't be allowed anywhere near children. He really deserves to have a fantastic time at his new school and find out what it's like to be taught by people who actually care about the children they teach and see the beauty in every child. Smile

HAPPY BIRTHDAY COFF'S LITTLE EXPRESSO! Grin

coff33pot · 20/06/2012 21:55

Thanks all :) it was one of those think back when moments and I think the lovely thread of stars got me all broody all week lol

We had a fantastic day. The school morning was just an hour and it went great. They were so nice but GENUINE nice iyswim. He had had a day on monday for hour also so today he was in computer suite and printed out the photos with his teacher and new TA. They were surprised that he could recollect who was who and what their names were and what each classroom was, its year group etc with only having 1 previous hour visit and could even tell them what plant pot was on what class window sill from a photo the TA took. DS told them to keep the photos and build their own scrap book for him and he will do the same with his photos. I think he will refer to his as I would imagine they will be of what he considered important to him but it is great they are being so thoughtful.

I was asked if he had had any music lessons before as he surprised them on the piano and the organ reciting his own music and playing an appropriate tune with it. Also the drums and the air guitar. I said not at all but he loves music so she said if he wishes to learn one then they will arrange for a private 1 to 1 session for him to have lessons Grin It was sooooo nice to hear positive vibes and encouragement instead of "DS done this that" "sadly DS cant do that"

Also part 2 of the sensory integration course for teachers I was invited to was today. During part 1 all the infants school were present......because the decison to keep ds out on ASD Teams recommendations........part 2 saw no one from the infants come, despite having been told it is vital to go to to have awareness for other children with sensory needs. I am disgusted but not surprised and glad he is out of there.

That's great Grin. Must be such a relief.

coff33pot · 20/06/2012 22:22

Oh its big relief! The ASD Team are great too and really fought my corner in what I was requesting. Arranged with the new school and hourly visit twice a week till the end of term where he attends in uniform plus the normal transition days the infants are having.

Juniors have agreed his 10 min break slots and under no terms will they take his play away or his sensory diet away as consequence and keep it consistent. They are going to use token rewards to earn time with the caretaker as he loves the gardening, building and painting side of things but use this as a token off of his time should his behaviour require it.

At the sensory course the HT was actively typing every minute word the OT was saying and they also brought in a private OT who had made this area her lifes work. Every TA in that school was there and the senco and head and it was great to see they were actively participating and asking questions eagerly. DS was also used this time as an example for want of a better word so it was like it was 3 hours drumming it all in for them lol

This area does interest me partly because of ds and my own issues but also I am intrigued on the background indepth studies too. So I was told there is a 3 day course coming up and I am in the process of prompting the senco to come with me lol.

Oh! his day? we have had cake, ice cream, hot dogs, slushies, two friends to softplay who I took to the end of the day so it was quiet with his sister. He was thrilled with his metal detector and I have been throwing coins and old keys out the bedroom window onto the garden most of the day lol Grin
