CAMHS going to discharge after reviewing their care package

Hello.

My son has been seeing someone from CAMHS since October 2011 as he has extremely low self-esteem and lots of anxieties. He had his 4th session today. At the start of the session, his psychologist informed me that we can only have one more session as they have reviewed how they work and she has no idea what will happen after that as she hasn't been told yet. This took me completely by surprise.

At the end of the session, I pointed out that she said last month that she would be assessing his processing issues. Her reply was that as we only have one more session, there is not enough time and she (still) hasn't read his educational psychology report which I gave them a copy of 7 months ago (she was sick for our first appointment so we were seen by one of her colleagues). She then went on to say that she hasn't gotten as far as she would have liked with helping my son with his issues and ideally would have liked to have provided more sessions.

So, after the next appointment, she will be discharging a child that she hasn't finished treating. What can I do about this? Also, who would FULLY assess a child's processing problems? He has had a few cognitive tests by an EP but this was not a full assessment by any means.

(On top of this, his physio has hinted that she wants to discharge him as she feels his help should be provided by his OT who is also trying to discharge him too soon :( ).

Thanks.

Our Camhs is not taking on any more cases and reducing its service to the minimum because of cuts 'reorganisation'. Do you think there might be something similar going on here?

It sounds like they are just leaving you high and dry. Sad

You go back to your GP and tell them exactly what you have put here and demand a referral outside of your area if neccessary. They cant just leave a child high and dry!
