Hi, my DD (just turned 2 & has Down's) finally had her assessment by LEA SENCO at her nursery.

You could tell by the conversations that I've been having with her that she thought I was a delusional, pushy parent when I told her the IEPs she was setting for DD remotely (as she didn't bother to meet her first) weren't stretching enough.

Anyway after 7 mths of me complaining & getting the nursery SENCO to set her own IEPs, the LEA's SENCO finally met with DD yesterday and was apparently stunned at DD progress. Apparently she's assessed her as only being 3 mths behind a NT!!! I know this won't always be the case, but I'm so,so proud of DD!!! :)

Well done to DD and to you for refusing to be fobbed off.

That's brilliant news!! Well done to all three of you - you for being a fantastic Mum, your DC for working so hard and for the Nursery SENCO for facilitating the right levels of help to make such fantastic progress! Two fingers to the LEA SENCO - I wonder how that humble pie tasted?!! Smile

proudmum74 · 18/04/2012 11:51

Thanks All!

sallyBear - I haven't spoken to her LEA SENCO yet, but I'm looking forward to it! :o

Have to say, a lot of the praise needs to go to her nursery too! We go to our local Asquith branch & they really do mean it when they say they welcome all children irrespective of their needs. From the start they assigned DD her own key worker, at their cost. She absolutely lovely to DD & spends at least an hour a day just with DD to go through all her IEPs, physio etc.
