hi, Ds1 in our opinion has a poor understanding of language, both what he hears and reads. he has Asd, visual problems and a one sided hearing problem so it wouldn't be inconcevable. school say he has no problems, and is a bright boy in the top sets(of a special needs school). he recently had a salt assessment via school which showed no problems. I have seen the transcription and it was very lead. . school say he should be aiming for A levels and university. He is year 10. Then they say he is predicted c/d at gcse which would go with his ks3 results which were 5/6. Understanding wise recent science lesson wasn't sure if they had learnt about transformers or transmitters, does not know the difference between no us and vous in french ( learning it for 7 years). Can always tell you how many points each section of an essay will earn him and that he must include opinion but doesn't know what opinion is. It may be the case that he isn't that bright and we should be thinking about suitable post 16 education. or maybe he is bright as the school say but lacks some sort of processing. how do we find out. who do we get to help. school is a small independant ss which is always struggling with numbers. Funded by reluctant LEAs. Would an independant SALT or Ed Psych help. If so where do we find good ones. London area
