SEN coffee morning at school

I suggested to the SENCO at DS school that we have a coffee morning for the parents with SEN, she is more than happy todo this and I will be helping to run this. I want to make it a success and was thinking of contacting various groups who run activities and training for SN children and parents for leaflets to put out.

I know some of you have these at your school, any advise to make people feel it valuable and want it to continue would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks. :)

DS goes to special school and they are having an "event" today with various people invited. THe sort of people they are asking along are Parent Partnership, a rep from Family Fund, "Short Breaks" (from the childrens social services disability team), SALT and Physio (but they are based in school anyway); someone from the Ed psych service - there may be more but I have mislaid the letter!

As an IPS with parent partnership, I attend a few of these at mainstream schools. Other people who go are our local carers centre-parent carer team, local disabled children's register co-ordinator, parent carer forum rep and people who run local SEN clubs, one that I went to even have a local group who do therapies for carers in to do hand massages. They are always really well attended especially if they are either just after drop off or end at pick up time. At the next one I go to there is a lady from Cererbra coming and someone from short breaks. They don't always have someone there as sometime it is nice to just chat to each other.
Good luck with yours, I have always found things like that a real help.

Thank you both so much for your replies you have given me some great advice. I'm going to a parent partnership forum on Thursday so I will talk to them.
