Au pair with SN toddler - realistic?

I've got a SN toddler (21 months, GDD, ASD, severe Epilepsy etc etc) and a newborn. It's not too bad atm as I have a SN nanny, but she'll be leaving us in July and as I'm on mat leave I can't afford to replace her.

I was thinking of getting an Au Pair; DD1 should be in SN nursery 2 1/2 hours a day by then and if I get help with all the houseworkey tasks and driving her about I thought we could probably cope.

Has anyone experience of having an au pair with an SN child? Does it work? Do they get freaked out by it - after all, they're supposed to be a family member not an employee and it's a bit of an odd family situation to dump them in. I'm also very much aware I won't be able to leave her in sole charge of either child.

You need Davros- I think she had one (although mainly to help out with dd (not SN) ). I've used extra pairs of hands to help out with ds2 and ds3 leaving me free to deal with ds1- do that quite a lot. You soon judge how much you can expect them to cope with.
