...and it went really well. The Headteachers own daughter was a Selective Mute as well(it was the HT that used the term about dd - nobody has ever actually called her that before even thought that is what she is). So the HT knows what she is talking about, and agrees with me totally about no pressure being put on dd to speak.

The referral was for an Educational Psychologist which is great - we had just been told "paediatrician". She may see the EP as soon as the 7th Feb as she is coming to see another child then and the HT has emailed her to ask if she is seeing dd then too.

So a very positive meeting

Glad you have found someone that understands, it will make life much easier. Does your dd speak at home? My dd didnt speak when she first went to school and she used to use sign language [her own version] This came from her being an english speaker in a Spanish school. We switched her to an international and she was quiet for a while. Once she felt settled she came out of her shell. Shes still quiet, doesnt like doing show and tell but has settled and made good friends and is doing well. I know this isnt the same situation as you but hopefully it will give you a bit of hope.

She speaks at home, and to a few close relatives and grown up friends. She also speaks to 2 other children. She has made a big improvement - she would only speak to me and ds at one point!

Glad to hear your dd has settled in. Dd starts school in August, so this will either cause a setback, or the change of routine may help...

Glad you are finding a way forward on this Wallace. It's great to have an understanding headteacher.

I was delighted to find that the HT had a similar experience

I am a bit worried about dd starting school, especially as her best friend (she talks to her outside of nursery) is moving soon, and we have a new baby due about 2 weeks before dd starts school (bad timing!)
