SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

My ds has finally been given some SFL time to help with his behavioural problems.

I have been told they are going to focus on his confidence and social skills.

This is all great. We have waited a LONG time for this to happen.

What I don't know is how I support what they are going to be doing at home?

Will they give me some information about what they will do/have done with him?

Will I have to go in (again) and ask for feedback in order to support the sessions?

Should I stay out of it altogether?

I am delighted but have no idea what my role should be here.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

What's SLF time?

Sorry, Support for Learning time - it will be one to one time outwith the classroom to work on social and behavioural problems that he has.

I'd ask what they are going to do, how they are gonig to measure it and agree on a formal update every half term.

Otherwise there is a danger it becomes a grandiose plan that sounds good but achieves little.

You should definitely be involved in deciding what they are going to target and supporting those targets consistently at home. I would also hope that it would move quickly from 121 to small group.

Thanks moondog that makes sense to me. He already has an IEP so should this be linked to it or would it be something separate?

oodles that is also what I thought. If they teach him techniques at school I need to be able to back them up at home.

I can see why it would make sense to move to small groups but I am also wary of expanding this time as the teacher has had to work hard to get him one to one time and it will not only be these issues he will be working on. I could ask the teacher if he could back them up in a small group during class time though.

Thanks for your replies. Having waited so long I am a bit taken aback that it has actually happened and is starting so soon. I want to make the most of the opportunity for him.
