Again thankyou for all your help. DS started on Amitriptyline about 3 weeks ago at first wonderful amazed in fact. Monday back to awful distress---Ma and Pa distraught. Spoke to fantastic paed who has suggested up his Amitripityline to 25mgs x 2 a day and if necessary give Diazepam or Midazolam if we get desperate. We can also give Chloral Hydrate at night. Can see the logic of this but would appreciate any personnel help. Thankyou

Instead of the Pead I would speak to your GP to be honest. I cant remember how old your son is now but DD is an adult now and she takes 1 x 25mg in morning and 2 x at night now and at night it knocks her for six. I think 10 mg to 50 mg daily is the doseage for pain. So I would say the pead was suggesting the highest dose, but not sure if it is right for a child..

Just checked over the net on one of the med sites and it does say a pediatric dose for pain in 12 to 18 yr olds is 25 mg twice a day but again I would confirm with a doc :)

As for the other drugs I really dont know. My daughter had diazepam a long time ago but they are highly addictive and she was so spaced out she stopped them.

Once again thanks coff33pot DS is 13 but weighs only 26k. luckily I have complete faith in paeds opinion as she has the guts to ask other people for advice despite being an old bird like me!! GP is excellent but says he a bit out of his depth. I think it is me that needs support! I feel so down about the whole scenario I just to mull things over, so thankyou for listening and good thoughts to your dd Off now to do last drugs.

Nothing wrong with the old birds Grin seeing as I am one of them lol. Thats great that you have people you can trust :)

I am sure he will be ok with what the pead says he might just be a little more sleepy thats all but that is far better than being in pain bless him. I can understand when you want to mull things over as I do it all the time. There is nothing worse for a mum than to watch their child in pain and want to take it all away :)

Hope he has a more settled night xxx

I can't remember what he is taking it for but I know that diazapam is a muscle relaxant but can make you feel very spaced out.

Started on increased Amitriptyline (25 mgs x2 a day) He no longer in so much pain but so zoned out slept xmas eve and xmas day I assume this is normal ? Please asssure me this is normal.
P.S. coff33pot you flatter me I am afraid I am old enough to be your mum however my closest friends are around your age. Can't refuse a needy child and will not foster and SS know this,( I and DH are a soft touch) so all are adopted. No regrets at all.
Happy new year to all

It does cause drowsiness but it shouldn't mean that he is asleep ALL the time like that IMO
