awaiting ASD diagnosis for DS, Is it worth getting one for me?

so apparently five year old DS's weird behavior is not ADHD (as I suspected), the EP thinks he has ASD, so he is being referred for a proper diagnosis, and hopefully will get extra support at school.

But, she also suspects I am on the spectrum too, (we talked about my childhood, strange behavoir and social problems). The thing is, since our chat it is like a huge weight has been lifted. I finally 'know' why I am different.

Have any other adults been diagnosed, is it worth it? Will I be laughed out of the GP surgery. I think the EP may be willing to write me a letter of support.

Do you think a diagnosis will help you in any way? If your answer is yes then go for it. Or is it enough to just believe the ep.

Great for you that the EP spotted things and that he is getting a referral :)

Not sure on the question of referring yourself. I know maybe if I was referred when I was younger it may have made a huge difference but now I am older and have learnt my own coping ways I dont really need one.

I think it is up to you. I would think that some adults would feel relieved in a way as a dx explains to them that past behaviours, relationships, situations through life or work, with family etc were not their fault so for that sort of reason it would be a good thing. :)
