Yesterday I took DS to his OT assessment that I bullied for Grin

I was spoilt as there were two of them!

DS was well behaved due to him melting down in car thinking we were going to see the ......in his words "horrible man that told him to get his hair cut" (psych)

Said that they were glad they had the cancellation to see him and agreed he needed more help than just me going to a "talk"

Scores high on tactile, auditory visual, sensory seeking and last but not least has auditory filtering issues (Grin not glad for him but proves my theory with the mp3 player!)

They are going into school to check his environment and make it better for him, suggest he is allowed the mp3 player to help with his work until his environment is adapted. Provide school with a wobble cushion and one for home, and help them to give him writing excercises as they agree with me that I dont want his TA to scribe for him and just use a computer himself forever or he will never learn to write.

Also they are going to send a report to the LA!!! So that at least will get there whilst the senior man is still pondering over my amendment requests. So all in all a positive day Grin

Also tell them he needs a sensory diet inbetween learning and not just hanging on till playtime and thinking the run around is enough. Plus allowing him a quiet area so he can be ALONE if he so wishes and not in the corner of the classroom which as he says he is still not alone. :)

Sounds like it was worth bullying for :o

Grin Well I did threaten to camp in her office with a flask and packed lunch lol.

They were really nice. DS didnt sit still and flitted about as norm. One funny incident that proved his filtering was he heard a sound and stopped and said whats that noise! They didnt hear it but I did and it was still going. The OTs were so puzzled and then amazed. There was someone in the room above :)

Well done Coff. Of course you were right all along :)

Now to get the school to carry out all of the recommendations quickly and not at their own time.

Well done Coff. Just a note of caution re LA. This is from previous past experience with our LA (I can hear Ninjathegooseisonamission scream from here Grin ) . Our LA did not accept OT report - and others (SALT, Physio, GP, Health visitor etc) as evidence from a 'medical professional" . They would only accept it in 'evidence' written up by a paediatrician. Biscuit
This is why I am getting our latest OT report to be written up by a paediatrician for when i next need it with the LA.
I bullied for my last appointment too Grin

Right! hmmmmmHmm

The Pead report I had quoted SPD and that she referred him to OT. Also you see she shoved at the end "unlikely to need long term follow up" Confused

They put this in my proposed statement. So when I spoke to LA I basically said "who says???" He hadnt had assessment yet or had his profile done and she only saw him for 20 mins and chucked down "oh he doesnt like clothes"!! and I think you will find it soooo different when he is seen.

Ok so happiness is short lived (but it was good at the time Grin) I guess my next mission then is to get this report then bully the Pead sharpish Grin

Just remember each LEA is different. Just that ours seems very snooty as to who they deem 'professional' enough to give credence to. Just that I think sometimes its worth doing the 'belt and braces' job if you're going to use information with the LEA. Last thing you need is for them to turn round and reject anything because it wasn't signed by the right person.
I still think you should bathe in the glow of achievement - we get so very few of these occasions, we should soak up each one! Grin
