Pushchair for disabled child and new baby?

Expecting a new baby soon, how do other mums cope transporting a disabled child and a new baby together? Found a fantastic pushchair that looks to be answer (Activate Tandem) which takes their baby car seat, then later a toddler seat, but as usual, price prohibitive. Any suggestions please? or ideas as to how to persuade wheelchair service to supply? my daughter is 6 years old and uses an attendant pushed JuniorAction 3 wheelchair at the moment.

you used to be able to get the mountain buggy double in a sn version, it's been discontinued but occasionally one comes up on ebay, that's assuming you're not in need of extra supportive seating. A friend of mine uses the usual mb double with her very tall 4yo. When dd3 got too big for the double we had we managed with either 2 of us with 2 buggies or her major and a sling, we now use the major with a buggy board. You can also get those buggypod things that you can attach to the side of some chairs.

Hi Bluesky
I had similar problem when my boys were both small, they are both disabled and I couldn't go anywhere. I needed a joined up double buggy which could also be used singularly.
I approached many well known charities along with my then HV and all refused except for...wait for it...the local fire brigade!

What I did is this; I was desperate and decided to go to the local rag. Within 4 days i had £1600- £500 donated anonymously and the rest from the fire service who had said they would've paid it all anyway.
this was after 16 charities has said no and months of hard work on my part contacting them all.

I thought when they stood outside their station with their buckets that they were collecting for their Christmas party but they do it all for charity.
Try your local fire station

We are in exactly same position. I have 27 month old with SN and 7 month old. We have been getting about in Phil and Teds but just not good for his sitting posiition so don't go too far as can't really leave him sat for long time.

Been to see Wheelchair services and they will not supply tandem unless both children are disabled. We will get a voucher to the price of the wheelchair they would prescribe and then have to fund the rest ourself or from charity.

Our Wheelchair guy has only ever done one tandem and has recommended a company and i think it is a Baby Jogger frame with one adapted SN seat.

I have looked at the Activate Tandam and but if it is anything like the able aid (made by same company) it will take ages just to put together and take apart.

I got extra funding from Activities Unlimited as we are unable to do any activities if we can't get out. Don't think Family Fund will controbute as they think NHS should pay up... like they won't pay for adaptations!! was told by y Physio to try the local roundtables!!

I see the rep for the buggy on Monday so will let you know what i think!!!!

PS also told it has to last 3 years so if your DD has had new wheels in past 3 years and her perscriptions has not changed they may not even give ya a voucher xxxx either way i am sure you will find a charity to help out 1!

Good luck
