Ds1 picked up a book this morning (on dinosaurs) and read it. Shock

The whole thing! (was an usbourne young readers level 2 so quite a few pages and some really hard words)

Needed help with one or two words but not many.

No prompting (well, gave up doing that years ago!!) I came into the room and there he was reading it.

Am amazed and needed to share.

As you were Smile

OMG!!!!!!!!

I've got tears in my eyes.

Do they have any usbourne readers on farming?

You do realise that if he is reading before DD, then you're paying for the weekend away........

Thank you all...I know I must seem mad but its such a massive thing for him...is confidence is growing and its great to see after so much awful sefl doubt and distress.

indigo Yes, thats the one....Oh, I wish they had one on farming!!! Grin

I cant wait to tell my dh that ds1 actually picked up a book of his own volition and read it!!! He only needed help on the words "many", "huge" and "euopachycephalosaurus" and I think the 3rd one is fair enough!!!

Well done both mum and bec son! it gives me hope as my nearly 5 yrs old has only now started to draw circles :c)

MangoMonster · 09/11/2011 19:23

Wonderful news :)

Becaroooo · 09/11/2011 19:36

Thanks all Smile

Have to say the usborne books are pretty fab.....have got loads of them!

Ds2 (3) likes the "Thats not my" books and the "find the..." series.

You see, if I told anyone in RL about ds1's achievement this morning they would look at me like I am slightly loopy (he is nearly 8.5 after all) but I knew you guys would see what a big deal this is!

roni 2 years ago I would have told you my ds1 was book phobic...I am not exaggerating Sad To see him pick up a book, read it, get most of the words right and enjoy it!!!!!! Well....I really never thought it would happen for us.

Keep the faith x

....oh and ds1 still isnt that bothered about drawing/colouring etc...some kids just arent x

MangoMonster · 09/11/2011 19:39

It is so difficult to know what they just don't like or what the asd is preventing them from liking... Great news about the reading though x

Becaroooo · 09/11/2011 19:47

mango Oh yes, I know what you mean.

Ds1 isnt into anything boys his age are "supposed" to be into. My dsis was only asking me today what ds1 wants for xmas and I dread it...I really dread it. Takes me forever to think of stuff he might like/find interesting - I am fresh out of ideas!!!!

Ds1 isnt into puzzles, lego, Ben 10, transformers, star wars, anything his peers are into basically!

However, he loves dinosaurs, animals, cars, lorrys, farms, trains, planes etc

Its strange, reading that list as they are same things I would have listed 4 years ago!!! Sad His interests/obsessions havent really altered. Luckily ds1 likes all of the above too! Smile

Becaroooo · 09/11/2011 19:52

Drawing circles is tricky isnt it?
Well done mini roni!!!
