Is this by the speech therapists? I would imagine its a SALT assessment to see how his social communication is, does he interact normally with adults and peers, what is his imaginitive play like, will he show joint attention etc. As a precursor to the paed/multi-disciplinary assessment in Nov? So basically, looking for ASD symptoms from a SALT and communication point of view. I expect there's a checklist somewhere on line, or hopefully a SALT like working9 or moondog will come along.

Hmm, perhaps its at a social communication clinic? My DS attended a few of those with the paed and a salt. Just guessing now...

It's likely an initial assessment of your concerns about his social communication. Here you get referred to child development assessment clinic for autism dx

The SALT assessed my DS for social communication skills. Initial appointment took about 1.5 hours. She gathered background info from me whilst observing DS from afar in the room. Occasionally asking him for a toy or help with something to which he kept his back turned on her but occasionally interacted facing the toys. They also did a sort of ability test with him and observed him at school. If they decide he has an issue with social skills then they will advise school on strategies to help him learn.
