Stair gates which are hard to open?????????

Any suggestions?

Our one across the kitchen door is a bit past it's sell by date and Ellie can sometimes open it (she would open the oven and have her hands in the grill)

Just wondered if any of you had them which are not opened easily

Thanks

I find most stairgates at other people's houses are "me" proof... Spend AGES trying to work them out...

Not much helo - sorry

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

lol

I nearly put that it's usually the adults that can't work them out!!!

We have had many a plumber and decorator struggle!!

I am so worried that she is going to open the kitchen gate one day whilst the grill or oven are on

I can shut the kitchen door, and I do if I have nipped upstairs, but I can't shut it if Ellie is downstairs as she would have a huge tantrum

THE tomy adjust a width ones are deffo hard for everybody AND they do not have a bar at the bottom

Ds can't open the one on his bedroom door but I'm afraid I don't know what make it is because we got it in a charity shop. It has a thing that you grip (a bit like a brake on a bike but concealed in a plastic handle)which is quite easy for an adult but impossible for a child. I think it's simply to do with being tall enough to hold it the right way. Maybe someone else knows which make of gate uses this system?

Thanks!

Do Tomy just do the one gate ?

I use travel barriers- they don;t open - just fasten to the wall, and are either up or down. I can leap over then (so can ds1 now- so he has 2 on his bedroom- one above the other)

i have a lindam one which is not THAT easy to open. yuou have to squeeze both sides of the handle whilst lifting it up!

Calista · 31/12/2005 20:33

We've recently bought the Lindam deluxe one from Argos (was about £23.99 I think). Would NOT recommend! DS is 2 and figured out how to stick his finger in a gap where it catches and press - et voila! Dead easy for an older toddler to open. You can't make the gap any smaller by tightening the gate because it won't shut if it's too tight. Crap.

starlover · 31/12/2005 20:37

ahh mine is the cheaper lindam one.. the 19.99 one

Calista · 31/12/2005 20:48

Bugger, wish we'd gone for that one now. Chose this cos it said 'easy close' (more like 'easy open'!) and triple locking. Not sure whether to take it back to Argos or contact Lindam.

eidsvold · 31/12/2005 21:26

we have one that is a 'pressure fit' it extends to the door size and then you push down a lever to lock it into place - uses rubber feet to 'fit' the wall. So you have to undo it and slide it back together to get it off - very hard to undo. But oyu can step over it.

will try and find a link for you.

I will have to have an opening one as it is for the kitchen!!!

Couldn't see myself with the dinners, drinks, dirty plates, !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Anyone have one of these?

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3753048.htm

Says it's double locking. A little dearer than the others but worth it if she can't open it

starlover · 31/12/2005 21:53

i have this one

but not from argos... and i didn't pay that much for it either!
am sure i got it from php... but can't see it on the site now. but it was only 19.99

starlover · 31/12/2005 21:53

no idea why it's marketed as a dog gate either?!?!?

anniebear · 31/12/2005 21:54

Lol, wonder if the dog is able to open it?!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't a big dog jump!!!

OP posts:
anniebear · 31/12/2005 21:55

Then again, it does look tall!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
starlover · 31/12/2005 21:56

i think it's about the same height as my other one... very odd. maybe it is unsafe for kids so they have to pretend it's for dogs instead? lol

only annoying thing is it's kind of hard to open with one hand... but you do get used to it
