Maclaren Mahjor has just tipped right over.....with Ellie in it

There was nothing on the handles at all, just Ellie (aged 4) in it

She started to have a bit of a scream and she throws herself back and the whole thing tipped right back.

I don't know if she banged her head or not

I know they are light and you can get up the kerbs more easily, but surely they should be stronger than that?

She is only 4! Could have a 6 year old in one having a big tantrum

I am really shocked, she could have really hurt herself

Poor Ellie!

I don't have any experience of the MM but I'm sure they should be stronger than that!

anniebear · 30/12/2005 13:11

Meant Major!!

It is quite a long way to fall back.

DH was taking her to post a letter, will have to see if she can still count to 10 when she gets back

No worries terryschonkyorange

Hadn't noticed it was a smile.I'm half asleep!!!

Will take a look at the weights thanks

OP posts:
anniebear · 30/12/2005 18:40

The weights are out of stock till March

Shouldn't really need them though should I? These buggies are made for SN children, I think its terrible that it tipped

OP posts:

Thats terrible, judging by others comments about the wheels not touching the floor. Maybe the company should be informed as it could be a fault that no-one has reported.

How traumatic for little Ellie

Actually, something like this nearly happened with my ds2. I did have a couple of bags on the back (but nothing heavy) and he pushed his legs off against a display table in shop and nearly tipped himself over - my friend caught him just in time.

I will certainly be extra careful from now on.

Apixelmascarol · 30/12/2005 23:11

Poor Ellie, I hope she is ok.When we first got the Major I was shocked at how easy it was to tip back. Now I always try to park it so it backs on to a wall or something just in case. You are right it shouldn't tip back so easily but I have noticed that as ds has got heavier the buggy has got more stable oddly enough.

The brakes aren't that brilliant either as I found out in the summer when I left it parked on a hilly bit in the park while we had a picnic. I didn't notice ds climbing in to it and I still don't know what made me look round when I did but there was ds really hurtling down the slope. I literally had to dive like a rugby player (never done that before in my life and probably never will again!)and stopped him seconds before he hit a group of toddlers sitting on a blanket. It's a miracle my hair didn't turn white! Ds just laughed though.

My other bugbear is being unable to lock the front wheels when you are on the bus. Very dangerous IMO.

anniebear · 31/12/2005 07:41

Apixelmascarol, thats awful

I am so unfit I would never have caught up with the buggy!!!!!!

OP posts:
Apixelmascarol · 31/12/2005 17:58

I'm not that fit either! It was parked further up the hill where we had been sitting but then we saw some people we knew and popped down to say hello. One minute ds was next to me and the next he was flying down the hill towards us so I had to do a sort of sideways dive.

I should have let you all think I was Superwoman though, good for my image

Hi all... poor ellie sorry to hear about her i use a old ype major for my small 20 year old son he weighs 8 and half stone and i have to keep an eye on him so he dont tip it up i have talked to maclaren and these buggies are for small adults as well as sn children as he cant walk very well and its so much easy to use than a wheelchair ie folding in the car... so it makes me think why should it tip with a small child in have you told maclaren? what sort major have you got mine is the blue 1 with single stripe i have been told that these are more stable than the real new new type is the brakes on yours work on the bake wheel you have got make sure they are in the groove so they hold the buggy can be fiddly
i thing they should have done to the major is made it reclining does any 1 agree with me take care every 1

Pixel · 02/01/2006 01:36

I agree, they should be reclining. Ds looks very uncomfortable when he falls asleep, which is quite often. perhaps they would tip up even easier though?

anniebear · 02/01/2006 07:55

We haven't had it that long and got given a new one so presume it is the newest one there is

I will contact them (when I get around to it, still have to contact Mars over the box of Celebrations I got....full of milky ways )

Really shouldn't tip back with a 4 year old in it.

Will speak to the Physio or OT at School
