Back to school and smearing and wetting is back

1.5 weeks in and ds has smeared poo in the bathroom again yet hadn't done it at all in the holidays. And he's wetting himself every day again, at least once sometimes twice, had got to once a week in the holidays. He of course never wets himself at school (mainly because he doesn't drink in school) and never smears at school. In fact, according to his new teacher hes an angel in school. He's no angel at home I can tell you that and I'm getting mighty pissed of with wiping the walls to get the poo off them and washing piles of wet clothes. He appears happy about school at the moment as well, only 1 major meltdown since going back that was directly related to school. Very fed up.

DS2 has been having loads more accidents lately - I think it's simply because with school starting up, he's exhausted and having difficulty focusing, so something has to give - and that's apparently what's been giving.

DS has wet himself twice at home so far. Thats because he has had the worst meltdowns since school starting and so wetted mid meltdown! Also he holds himself all morning at school as he is afraid of the toilets and cant wipe himself properly (crouches on ours as fear of falling in)

My 5 year old ds soiled himself up to 8 times a day all last term. Had daily meltdown's when he arrived home from school. But apparantly was no trouble at school. And usually would hold himself at school and then soil at home apart from a few accidents.

Yet in the school holidays he turned into a completely different boy. We had him going to the toilet, his behaviour improved, he was a joy to have.

But now school has started again, he started soiling the night before his 1st day back. We are back to the meltdown's.

Personally, I think school is just a step too far for him. He never has meltdown's with anyone else but me as I don't think he feels he is able to.

At the moment, I am keeping him in school as I want him assesed by the EP. But I will consider home schooling if things don't improve as the school have offered no help as yet.

Although it feels like your alone on this, believe me you aren't. Chin up. Hope things improve for you soon.

Our OT gave us the continence nurse's information, I think we're going to contact them, and hope they can provide some assistance.

I feel better for knowing I'm not alone in this. I do wonder if school is just a step too far for him. I'm really hoping when they get his sensory diet in place in school that maybe things will improve at home but I'm not convinced school will implement it, we'll see won't we.

I just don't get how he can be fine in school and this totally of the wall child at home that just can't keep it together.

Rebl - it's because he's spending all his energy keeping everything together at school but home is a safe place to let the anxiety out, surely? (I've read that so many times now, it must be true :) )

We home ed. I can't imagine what schooling would do to toileting around here
