Are my son's grommets on there way out??

Ds2 has stinking cold and I have noticed that he has lots of waxy discharge around his outer ear. When I was trying to clean it up, I noticed that I could see a fair way into his ear and could actually see his grommet. As he only had them fitted in Sept. I am hoping that this is not a sign that they are about to fall out!

Has anyone else been able to see their child's grommets with the naked eye?

Ds1 had his fitted 2 weeks ago and we could see them when we looked the next day.

One of my daughters feel out after 3 months but the other stayed there. We didn't actually see the grommet for another 6 months, it took that long to get down the ear canal!

Hi guys - thanks for your responses.

Went to docs tonight for a prescription for me and got her to take a peek in ds2's ears. A bit like you weatherwax, one is on its way out but the other is in place ok. Just hoping that it stays in place for the winter!

Hi Merlot, DD had hers fitted April 04 so we have been on grommet alert for a while - we were told they would last 12-18 months. Slightly neurotically when she had a bit of a sniffle in Sept I rang up hozzy and got a cancellation for the next morning(!!) and Dr confirmed that one was in and working fine, other was they but dislodged ie not working, but hearing with one in place was fine. reassured me massively. Course once they fall out I assume the little hole doesn't close up immediately, glue ear doesn't build up overnight - so am like you hoping and praying that we get through winter.

Grommets have made a massive difference to our life and I make no apologies for being a little bit neurotic about the whole business!

I could see Henry's when they were still in place.
