We have recentley as a family, told my middle boy he has aspergas syndrome, and thats why he feels different and cant cope with his world.

hello ladies im eastyorksmum of junies post natal thread, it breaks my heart that boy has suffered so much in his life, he lost his farther at 13 whom he was very close to, and now he has come to me, and asked me why hes different, ive waited till i thought he could understand the situation, but im so worried about my boy, he recognises hes different, but weve just told him he just needs to work that bit extra.

If any of you of you have some some advice for me, please help me. as now i am looking at an adult with aspergas not a child.

Hi Eastyorks mum. Although your son is 18 and you're looking for adult level information, I still think it might be helpful for him to read Luke Jackson's book 'Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome' because it might help him to make sense of what he's been living with all his life. It's an excellent book written by a fourteen year old boy about his own personal experiences of living with AS.

The other widely recommended reading is Tony Attwood's 'Asperger's Syndrome, a Guide for Parents and Professionals', but it would probably be best to read through that yourself first to determine if it's right for him. You know him best.

Good luck.
