You people who use PECS will understand.

Haven't been working as a SALT for about 18 months (sahm). When I left,was exhausted having done a lot of work,putting PECS inot place in various settings.I was also rather worried about one school's ability to 'stick with the programme'.

Anyway,today in town, so two of my 'children' (profoundly Autistic and non verbal with the expected behavioural issues) with their 1:1 carers and guess what???

They both had their (obviously well thumbed) PECS books around their necks!!!!

Thats lovely. It must be nice to know that they have implemented the programme so well.

The ONLY thing I hate about PECS is the round the necks thing (was talking about it with Davros recently). Would be less "spot the disabled child" if they could wear it across the shoulder. Must be horrible for kiddies with sensory issues- hmm can't bear a lable on his shirt but we'll hang a strap round his neck!

Good that the school have stuck with it though!

Well I'm glad you said this baka because it was a little 'in yer face' to me,but I wrestled with that and concluded that it may have been because I have been out of work for a while.

You're absolutely right,hanging across the body would be so much better.
I'll bear that in mind.........maybe something to tell Pyramid eh?

Still.........they were all in the cupboard two years ago so we're getting there.

ds1 used to out his on his back like a rucksack, but he;s getting a bit too big. I sometimes hang it round his neck for short times, but generally don't because I think it does look ridiculous.

I've got 2 straps- I should connect them together! Will do that.

That's fab mizmiz! NOt just Pecs at snacktime, then...
