toilet training away from the home

I have been toilet training my 10 yo ds for the last 2 year. He now copes 9am to 4pm in the house when my husband isn't there. When he's there he will forget to ask, doesn't ask or deliberatly do it anywhere??
Anyway I am trying to progress this to being out on small trips. He loves going for drives. When on one of his drives he asked for the toilet. We couldn't find a toilet anywhere, he's too heavy to pick up like a toddler, too big to take a potty with us and doesn't stand to go, he sits on the toilet. Does anyone have any ideas??

tricky, if you are i the car can't you get one of those quite big potty thrones (the ones that are designed to look a bit like a toilet) and keep it in the back of the car? Agreed it is difficult to go standing up if you are used to sitting down. I know he is too big for a potty, but quite frankly I've been tempted to use our tiny but sturdy potty on a couple of occasions and I reckon I could manage it if desperate!! not come to that yet though, thankfully.

haha thanks for that pedal, he has mobility issues and getting down and up from a potty would be difficult, but an easy option if it wasn't.

You could consider a male urinal bottle (like they use in hospitals but plastic, not disposable) if it is just needed for wees. We use one with our son - there are different shapes available but mostly they can be used sitting as well as standing just make sure the willy is tucked in and held in place!! (Or you might get sprayed in the face.....ask me how I know!) One with a lid is handy if there is nowhere to tip the contents.

I'ld say get one of those bottles that starfish suggested. or would it work to memorise all the service station/fast food restaurants to nip in to for the loo, or would he not go in an unfamiliar place?

yes the wee bottle a good idea but what i do is i use google before hand to find out where all the stops are in advance i even use google street in advance to find where to park and other types of service google street is a godsend for that i found in advance actual disabled parking bays , then you can also use google street to find all the tesco/asda branches and use their loos or Micky dees
