what!??!!! are they mad?

jenk1 · 19/11/2005 12:58

ive had enough of them, he only has 3 weeks left now because as JW we break up a week early to avoid the xmas activities so i think we are going to Home Educate him, i cant think of anything else im sick of heim being upset all the time.

He,s due to start his assesment at the hospital in jan anyway so im hoping at the end of it we might be able to get him in a school with an ASD unit attached.

jenk, what does your ds think of this new arrangement?

jenk1 · 19/11/2005 13:14

we havent told him yet, but he has been asking to be home edded for a couple of weeks now so he will be pleased, just hope i can cope as it will be up to me to provide the bulk of it, if anyone has any tips or advise id really appreciate it.

This has something that I've thought about too. I wouldn't need to do it now, but when he's older if my ds found school life particularly distressing, perhaps if he's bullied, and the school wasn't helping in any way, then I would give it some serious thought too. Hope someone can come along to give you some advice. I'd imagine it would be a pretty hard slog.

ive just thought of something.

If we take ds out of school and tell the LEA that in our opinion ds concerns are not being taken seriousley enough what will they do?

Will they offer some support at home or do they try and get you back into the old school, sorry if this sounds dim but im not sure how it works

You can get lots of general advice on your rights/responsibilities re Home Edding on the Education Otherwise site. There are also some e-mail lists out there for people who home ed children with ASD or other SN. Hopefully someone on here will know the names/addresses but if not you can probably find them via google.
