The road to Statementing...

we wrote our letter requesting an assessment for a statement for DS.
Letter received the next day and a pack was sent straight to us.
I need to fill in how DSs education is affected, his educational needs, what he's good at at school and at home, why we thing he needs a statement etc
The DS has to fill in his own one. What he likes, doesn't, good at etc... This in itself will be hard to motivate; it's dull, tedious and boring and he has to fill in the exact same document at school Shock
Do all SENCAN LA send these out?
How much detail should I be putting at this stage? It's for them to decide whether to agree to an assessment.
Then when/if they agree then send out more forms...
Geez

(((((((((cinnamon)))))))))))

I have been where you are and its horrid.

Be kind to yourself now and have something to eat/drink.

Oh, cinnamon, I'm really sorry. It's not the end, though. What an absolute pain. Sad

To make things worse, I feel really guilty for blaming SENCO when I know it wasn't them/their fault. Both DSs teacher and SENCO have done loads and SENCO sent in a big wad of papers. Blush
We just have to wait for the letter telling us the details and phone them up. They want to meet with us and a school rep to get a better understanding of how he's being helped. The problem is, no one knows what else is supposed to be sent in... SENCO sent everything, pages of how DS works or doesn't and we're stumped.
SENCO said its positive that they haven't said no, I agree but wish I hadn't blamed them in my head Angry or shown it even remotely when I told them
hanging head in shame

Off to drink Brew and tidy a little, then who knows? flop

Vent over... Thanks for being there =)

Come and have some Wine with us on the Friday thread, if you feel up to it. (Though I prefer G&T, myself)

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 24/06/2011 19:46

And just go in on Monday, say you were really disappointed and you know they've been really helpful and sorry if you sounded ungrateful. They'll understand.

Okay, so the meeting was scheduled for last Tuesday at SENCAN but on the morning they cancelled due to the caseworking being off sick! [angry emoticon]
On Thursday, when I was handing out my end of year gifts (see other thread) SENCO called me into a quick meeting. SENCAN had called and said, following the cancellation, they had reviewed DSs case file again, and will aditional evidence from school/us, they would put his case back to the panel to hopefully get acceptance to assess for statement.
Fingers crossed, school send their extra bits in on Friday (last day of term - SENCO was a star for sorting it) and I got all my bits in yesterday incl. revised OT report with more education backing, sample work where DS struggles, breakfast club letter of details etc.
Panel meet on Thursday.
I'm supposed to be at a residential that I've cancelled to sort this, DH is signed-off and DLA form need completing and my course CMA is due in tomorrow. That will mean on Thur my holday starts and back to work Monday :(
I've not got time to think let alone destress... Blush

Panel meet tomorrow? Blimey, you've had a busy time of it. Things have definitely got harder from when my DS was going through this 7 years ago, sorry, that's no comfort! The hoops you have to jump through just to get them to assess! For my DS it was the assessment itself that required all the detailed reports, though I suppose they don't want to assess at all unless they are pretty sure you'll get something at the end. Everything crossed for you. You can't do anything today, do something nice?

CinnamonPretzel · 28/07/2011 17:47

WOOHOO... The panel have agreed to assess for statement in September when the schools are back :o. Wine
