Can anyone recommend a private psychiatrist

Is any Mums here able to recommend a psychiatrist in the AS field in Cornwall please. CAMHS have not got one employed in our area and this is the only thing DS is waiting on. Spoke to them again today and they said he is down on the top of a list already prepared for when one comes along and is hired! this could take months and I am seriously at the end of my tether so thought I might seek out a private professional but on searching the net they all look cagey as I dont know what I am looking for. Hope someone can help and an idea of what it may cost/charge. Many thanks x

have you asked camhs? they might have a list as it's possible they get asked this a lot.....i asked our camhs about a private asd specialist a year ago. we couldn't do this as lea would only accept dx from nhs consultant, long story but dd wasn't allowed education until she got dx.....her appointment has just came through, after waiting 2 years....

Hi davidsotherhalf.....no I havent asked camhs. It was about an hour after getting off the phone to them being told again that no they havent managed to employ one yet that I decided to think about going private (if bank balance and selling my soul allows lol) So it was a spur of the moment.

I will ring and ask them too. DS is in education (well actually no I pulled him out this week.....long story on another thread. Until they make proper provision and learn understanding) Its the dx I need I think to actually prove my DS has issues. Its bloody obvious and everyone agrees but the school themselves keep reverting back to pressuring him unfairly forgeting he has problems because I guess from the outside nothing appears wrong. The school have agreed they are pushing him to far and will back track but they keep doing this and then he is getting blamed when he is in a full meltdown. I dont want any of this for my son but if this is what it takes then so be it. Not sure about LEA but frankly I think you are on your own anyway with or without a dx so at least I can fight and get him the help when I know exactly what help he requires. Thanks for replying :)

my dd got asd dx when she was about 3 but another doctor didn't agree so they took dx back .......same again at 9....then at 15 got dx asp.....education won't accept dx from camhs so had to wait for another dx from elsewhere.....i just hope they agree on mondays appointment

thanks coff.......can i ask a question do you only have 1 camhs service in your area? i found out that we have 2, only found out by accident as our camhs don't have the phone on very often and answer phone gave another number, maybe if your area have 2 camhs the other might have a psychiatrist.....

No we only have one down here. DS has had all the other assesments they do and its just this lack of a psychiatrist that is holding everything up. It is rubbish down here. Believe it or not there is only ONE EP too! and she came months ago and did half an assesstment at DS school then went off sick and so no assessment got completed. She is still sick and they dont have another. I am new to all this but I now know why there are a lot of frustrated mothers and a lot of children being left dangling and unhelped due to the lack of proffessionals.
