Just had a conversation with Portage who went into see Lottie today.

She agreed about the walking thing and thinks they have to be careful they don't push her toohard and make it something scary, torturous etc.
She said 'It has to be from Lottie, she has to want to do it. With her it has to be her idea and then she's happy.'. So nice to have her on my side.

She also said:

  • Lotts was edging round the table
  • pushed herself up out of her chair and stood at the table
  • got herself down fromt he table
  • climbed in & out of her own chair
  • it was Lottie that announced Angela's arrival (angela is our Portage lady) by saying 'There's Angela'.
  • joined in all singing whilst rehearsing the navity play
  • said 'hello' in 4 different languages!!!!!!!!!!!!

She said to take a large box of tissues with me when i go to see the play!

So feel much more positive and happy again now

Glad you are happy with news tc

Your dd will so benefit from portage, I thought my ds' portage teacher was brilliant, I miss her actually.

I just said that to my assistant Doormat. I'll miss our Portage visitor so much. She's like a friend who just happens to work in the the special needs sector and has some great advice. She's fab. Lottie is at school on Friday but she's coming to see me anyway for a cup of tea and to catch up with me and fill me in properly on her visit to Lotties at nursery today.

This is rather good news, hey, TC (you blood-curdling sweet animal eating vixen)

Aside from the walking, are some of the things you highlighted in the 'report' quite newish behaviours too ? (like the getting in and out of the chair, edging round the table etc.)... you mentioned the leaning on the bath (last month was it)... and these seem to show she's really motoring.

Pass the chocolate sauce. hmmm, lovely.

Happy you are feeling more happy and relaxed tc xxx

Oh nice one!

I agree-Portage is the business!

Did you know that it was started off in a remote part of the States where people with children with SN had difficulty accessing services?
Idea was then to train people in the community to guide encourage and monitor progress.

Brilliantly simple. I love flicking through the sheets and seeing the ticks steadily increase in volume as a child acquires a new skill.

sorry not had a chance to read all of your last thread. But glad to hear that you feel happier now

It sounds like a good report, TC.

Ds2's portage worker is lovely too. The rest of her colleagues tell me that she's practically started a ds2 fan club!
