Hello - just posting to get a few thoughts from others on this. I think I am too close to have a balanced view! Apologies for the length.
DS1 is 4.5, ASD and with severely delayed communication skills. He is just beginning to talk and doing fabulously but it's been a long wait. He has also, until recently, been in nappies day and night. We had a small attempt at Xmas and got him in pants and asking for a nappy but no use of the loo. And when he went back to nursery (school nursery, all day 9:00 - 3:30) he got very distressed and we put him back in nappies.
Anyway, we decided over Easter to have another go. This was amazing. Although was prepared to go slow within 3 days he was weeing in the toilet and has had practically no accidents. He has been a total star. Met nursery yesterday and talked through what we've been doing. They are very supportive.
So today, packed him off in his pants. DH takes him in, apparently showed him the loos but DS1 was not very happy. But no calls during the morning so we were hopeful. We went to collect him at 2:00 for a dental appointment and were told that he had had no accidents (yay!) but also had not been to the loo at all (boo). He doesn't drink at all whilst he's there (another outstanding issue) but overall is this good? When we got to the dentists I took him to the loo and he was happy with me to do a wee and was absolutely fine. Sort of feel it was a draw! Should I be optimistic or pessimistic about tomorrow?
Cheers
