My "baby" is 4 today!!!

I know it can be a really emotinal time, thinking of the "what might have beens!" But TBH I feel really good! She was up with the larks, and such a happy little poppet. We sang Happy Birthday to her and she joined in and looked sooo excited.

I have both the children at home with me today, staff training again, and we are having a lovely "together day!" Making halloween decorations, carving a pumpkin later...my only sadness is the fact that I need to compromise between the "fun" of halloween, and the celebration of Amelia's Birthday. It sort of takes the edge of of things IYSWIM.

She has come such a long way in these 4 years and I personally think, this last year particuarly.

Thank you ladies, me being as organised as ever, the decorating has taken over the whole house and I am still trying to make her card! DH is trying to get off of work earlier, so we won't really be doing much until later on this afternoon!

mizmiz- the speech is coming along, slowly but surely. She attempts lots of words now, but the formation isn't great...for example she can say "d" ,can say it in common words like "daddy" but she wakes up early in the morning and shout out "'ark, ark!" until I put her light on.

We had a really good SALT session with Symbol last week and her target sheet came in the post this morning. We are working on identifying short and long sounds, sequencing, syllables and the leading sounds,turn taking (!!!!)and practising a few leading sentences such as "I heard..." and "I can...".....

Lots to do!!!

Gosh,she's doing well if she's working on stuff at that level!

Who/what are Symbol??

Symbol are a private SALT group that specialise in working with DS. We started having sessions with them about 18 months ago, not on a very regular basis, perhap every 6-8 weeks. But it has given us clear targets to work on.

Her speech isn't great, I don't mean that in a negative way. I just thought that when you read her targets it does seem thatare are quite "advanced" if that's the right word to use. Her understanding is just so much better than her expressive language and her concentration, although much better, is really low.

Comprehension is invariably better than expression as I'm sure you konw.

They're still impressive targets though.

Have you ever considered PECS to help her to 'plot' a sentence? I've had some really good results using it with kids with DS which I would like to investigate further.
