I have posted previously about the concerns I had of my son being clumsy, impulsive, and emotional.
We went for our appointment yesterday, and they said he passed the test! It involved hopping, jumping, catch, threading beads, posting coins, and writing and drawing. He fell over a fair few times, but she said he was acceptable and within the boundaries!
He behaved in his typical fidgety manner (which was what i wanted him to do, so i didn't look stupid for taking him!)and she said he was hyperactive, although it wasn't affecting his co-ordination negatively. She has said though that his handwriting is very poor and she was amazed he gets no 'one-to-one' help with that. He writes a lot of his letters back to front, but his teacher says that is just a habit (?) She will be writing to school to request that help is given for him. She said I was doing lots of good things for him - dancing, bike riding, walks (all to use up his energy)and Beavers, and also recommended tai kwon do or similar, saying the disipline of it will be good for him.
He isn't so 'all over the place' at school, as if he finds something to keep him busy and grab his attention, he fidgets less. They do have to watch who he sits by, as he gets hyper quickly and takes a while to calm down. His teacher said there was no problem, and he was a 'little boy' which made me feel really upset and neurotic about my HV referral which I instigated.
I feel a lot better now that i know it isn't just me that thinks he is hyper. I have another appointment in Jan to see how he is going. I don't know if they discharge him then, or keep an eye on his progress?
