After waiting nearly 5 months for a DLA decision about ds2.............

He has been awarded higher rate care until 2008! The payments have been backdated to April when we first requested the forms and so I now have an extra £1500+ in my bank account.

As it was so difficult to describe how his behaviour was different to a 'normal' 2yr-old I expected either nothing at all or lower-rate if we were lucky. I think I'm still in shock!

Anyway, a huge thankyou to all of you who helped me to explain how ds2's needs are different to other children of his age and also to everyone who's put up with me moaning for months about the loooong wait.

And yes, the Rule of Davros was proven yet again to be correct as the letter arrived on a Saturday.

Great news CT! I think my "rule" needs to be formalised and its proper name put into widespread use (obv the Davros Rule)

As someone who has just been awarded DLA for DS1 at middle rate, I am tickled pink that you have got yours! It is so difficult to describe to others just how much the extra money means; we use if for DS1 obessions, his ps2, lego star wars, computers and games! Every little helps towards him and the rest of the family. Well done to you because I know how horrid those forms are to fill in! xxxx

JakBat · 24/10/2005 09:30

Absolutely fantastic news!

coppertop · 24/10/2005 16:06

Thanks everyone.

The cynical side of me wondered whether ds2 had been awarded higher rate just to shut me up. I think they got a bit fed up of me phoning every few weeks.

I feel guilty though for silently cursing ds2's Paed for taking 6 weeks to send in his report. It must have been a good one too.
