DS2 has a statement for dyslexia, dysgraphia, APD and various associated things. He is due to go to 2ndary school in September. I asked the SEN team to name a local specialist, independent dyslexia school as his 2ndary school, they refused, I asked them to reconsider, they refused again.

Then I hired a solicitor and within 5 days the SEN team leader (never spoken to him before) called to say "oh, sure, we would have said yes anyway, we were just costing it, just please withdraw your appeal, we have to watch our numbers of appeals". I said OK - if you give him a taxi too, he said yes.

Obviously I am delighted beyond belief but also wonder - would they have agreed without the legal threats?

What fantastic news that your ds will go to the right school and have a taxi too.

It's good to hear positive things but as you say it is not good that we have to push to get the best for our kids.

Thats great! What a relief that must be Smile.
Do you mind me asking what solicitor you used and how much ish he cost...?

I am delighted - DS2 came home from school crying again today cos they wouldn't let him join in "tig" (FFS). He called me at work and was tearful and said "please mum, come and get me" I said "be brave, go to the library for a bit, I packed you a nice lunch, go eat it, keep trying". Then I thought - why am I saying this, bugger them. And picked him up.

AlysWho - I used Maxwell Gillott - they have a system where you can use a trainee - who was amazing. If you are on any benefits at all - even working families tax credit you can use them for free.
