Oh how i wish my ds age 10 would sleep. i went to bed half 12 and he started banging his bongo drum at 3. This is 3rd night in row deprived of sleep. He is so hyper even in daytime. think possible due to our school being on holiday been off since last thursday, goes back tomorrow WOOP WOOP. He thinks its a great laugh to bang doors, windows n drums and bounce up & down in middle of night. Try to keep him quiet downstairs for my other 2 ds who he goes in and bounces on (wee toad). If only he could talk then maybe he'd tell me whats going on in that little mind of his.

lol no probably not Smile my sons loves to talk non sensical most of it but he still cant tell me why he lays awake all nigh picking holes in his pjs and twice now picked his toenail right off (he says he likes doing this it doesnt hurt)Confused but know how you feel when esp youve hardly slept and later in the day they have a meltdown ,I think if only id had some sleep this wouldnt feel so bad, difficult i know with siblings too as ive two teens ones doing exams and they need their sleep and ive a DH who wouldnt wake up if their was a unexploded bomb about to go off hed still snore away hopefully this will pass as my DS didnt used to be this bad but if not im going to ask about something to help him sleep a bit, when i asked the gp she flatly refused grrr so ill ask the psycologist at CAMHS when i next see her

Grin at ds picking holes in pjs. but must be extremely sore when picks off toe nails (my ds doesnt react same as NT either to painful things). My dh is a nightmare, we end up falling out about this. i end up getting up because when he does he just moans constant about everything all day and he thinks im daft because when you hear ds he gives it all the snoring pretending to be asleep when theres no chance he could be (think neighbours are all awake with noise ds makes, bangs windows and everything). What a shame for our other dc eh! they have so much to put up with dont they, though at least mine not doing exams as yet. my other 2 dont bother, never known any different so just get on with it, wee souls. My gp just goes along wth what the paed says, it is always her that recommends any meds for my ds. Hope you get something sorted soon. Having said that its a joke cos my ds seems to be getting worse and he has both risperidone & strattera. Anyway better get on, housework to do ds sitting in his chair (cant go anywhere, lol, how cruel am i) banging away on the tray, let him out soon if he's good Hmm

yeah you would think that would be very sore indeed but he heels fast luckily and seems none the worse for it he picks his fingers too when hes worried and tired omg i was hoping the meds would help with my DS Shocksounds like they need to up yr dose lol i guess as he stays actually in bed im kind of lucky then as he even when awake either comes in to chat or just fidgets and scratches all over rather than walking about banging things he sometimes gets up and starts playing or drawing (hes obsessed with drawing pokemon characters ATM) the painfull things is right too he once cut his head open in the consevatory and came in to the kitchen bleeding profusely and he didnt feel anything just asked for a juice this was when he was abt 6

I'm sure you know this, but if the sleeping is getting worse, insomnia is a known side effect of risperidone and strattera - it might be worth loking at different medication combinations, especially if they're not seeming to work

shazian · 16/02/2011 12:19

thanks tabulahrasa never knew this. he's only been on strattera for a week. i know risperidone is anti psychotic but it is given to my ds to make him sleep, paed said is often used for this. risperidone was fab initially but because been on for over year doesnt seem to have same effect. though he is definetely worse since taking both meds together. dont know what to do, perhaps im not giving strattera enough time to work started off 18mg goes up to 25mg 2morro for a week then after that up to 40mg until i see paed in april. strattera meant to be for adhd but he is still very hyper having said that our schools are on mid term break now, go back tomorrow so maybe i'll notice change then. Its a nightmare dont know what to do for best, because he doesnt communicate makes it worse cos he cant tell you how he's feeling and its hard to understand what keeps him up when he looks shattered and yawns all day long. have tried various meds they either dont work or he has side effects tried before, melatonin, valergan, valergan forte, concerta and others. give another week i think n see how he goes.
