asd + special needs schools in Harrow /Brent or Barnet

Just wanted to know if any one knows of good sn school for an asd child in either Harrow Brent or Barnet as we are presently looking for a placement for our DS.

I know 2 ppl whose children are bussed from that general area to Hillingdon Manor School - they cannot speak highly enough of it - it sounds like a long way to travel, but may be worth it.

Are you looking for primary or secondary?

does your child already have a statement?

I live in this general area -so will try to marshall my thoughts and pm you tommorrow - as not everything I have to say about the LEA my child is in is entirely positive - (but it's not all bad either).

Random fact I have picked up along the way that isn't libellous is that Brent Autism Outreach don't require a statement - Harrow's do. However Brent won't get involved with a child who goes to school outside of Harrow as they are allocated to individual schools. Brent's only see chldren living in Brent. So if you have a child living in Harrow who goes to school in Brent - don't expect any support from either team.

Brent have a reputation of being more reasonable when it comes to giving statmemtns, while as harrow have a rep for not wanting to give statements - but if you look at the Dept of Ed website - you'll see that both LEAs give roughly the national average number of statements so maybe Harrow are just more stroppy about it all.

Yes, Hillingdon Manor is very good, and takes children from 5 - 18.

Yes we do have a statement although council want to amend part 4 to a school not of our choice.

It is a primary school place that we are looking for .
