Hi,

DD (8ys) has SPD but does not have many symptoms now due to therapy for 4 years.

She has always had a very sensitive gag reflex but she does not tend to gag and vomit but gag or cough.

She coughs if she laughs too hard, hiccups, cries, runs or smells something she does not like.

If she gets a cold you can guarantee that she will be off for a few days for coughing fits ending in retching. I am sure it is not the cold making her so bad with coughing but her oversenstivity to post nasal drip from her nose. She had never had a chest infection before despite lots of colds.

I have read this might be linked to SPD. Any advice appreciated.

Sorry not sure what SPD is but my dd has a sensitive gag reflex. She has very slight CP and will gag on food she doesn't like (isn't usually sick) and frequently when she gets a cold/cough when she is sick.

Not sure there is much that can be done - it does seem to be improving as she gets older thank goodness!

Dd1 used to gag on food and when she had a cold would cough until she's almost sick, i have put it down to her sensory issues linked to her having Aspergers, she has improved (she's now 7), when she was 2 she used to make herself sick from crying and coughing.
