She has not been well for a few days - we thought she just had a bug.... she rallied this morning and seemed right perky compared to the last few days so I sent her off to kindy - they call me and ask me to come and get her as she is covered in a rash ( no rash when I dressed her this morning!!) and it looks like measles.... haven't seen the doc for confirmation BUT looking at all the info we have - she has displayed the symptoms, the rash looks like the pics..... SO i feel like a crap mum for sending her to kindy when she was unwell... and possibly infecting every other child there.....

AND I agonised over giving her the MMR and we went through a real struggle regarding that - she has the jab and still ends up with the measles... HOPEFULLY the comment that the MMR prevents them from having a worse dose is true and dd1 has a mild dose.

I also have to try and keep her away from dd2 who is not old enough to be vaccinated....

BUGGER!BUGGER!BUGGER!

It could be just an effect of the Hep b vacc - jabs can often cause minor symptoms of the disease it's preventing. And often rashes can accompany plain old colds, so I wouldn't be hasty in jumping to conclusions about measles until you've seen a doctor.

Sorry she's so poorly though, hope it doesn't last long and she's over it soon.

Well thank goodness - not measles.... seems it is a reaction to the virus that she obviously has along with the antibiotics.... so thank goodness - stopped antibiotics and the rash is starting to already subside. SHe has cheered up somewhat tonight so we shall see...... a number of people said measles including the clinic nurse etc but the dos said nope - did all the checks anyway BUT no measles... YEH!!

Also even if it had been measles by the time the rash appears the most contagious period is past so I wouldnt feel too bad about sending her to preschool and she was feeling better at that stage. Glad it is nothing though and all is on the mend.

eidsvold · 12/10/2005 09:17

yowling...that is what i thought but apparently measles is contagious up to a number of days after the rash is gone!!

glad its not measles- but usually with measles the rash coincides with feeling really really rotten so it was never very likely. Everyone says measles as soon as they see a rash!

Hope she's better soon.

yes- measles is very contagious. Starts with very heavy cold like symptoms and husky cough. If ever any of mine get very husky coughs I always check for whit koplick spots in the mouth- that's diagnostic- they go as the rash appears and the temp shoots up again.

heartinthecountry · 12/10/2005 10:36

Worried now! Dd had a really high temp last night (though down this morning) and has a husky cough. What do white koplick spots look like bakabat?

bakabat · 12/10/2005 10:54

Look inside the mouth- they are on thelining of the mouth and look like little grains of sand with a red bit round them. Go to google images and do a search for them- there's some good piccies. Don't worry mine have had lots of husky coughs but never measles...
