Hi Folks,

I hope someone can help me.

I have recently been granted supervised direct contact with my son. My son is profoundly deaf, I am hearing.

My son requires a British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreter to be present at the contact sessions, as he is fluent in BSL, while I am still learning BSL.

My son must be familiarised with the contact centre staff and the Interpreter prior to contact taking place with me.

The cost of my the interpreter and contact center superviser throughout will cost in the region of £2000. I am able to help towards this cost, however I do not have the full amount. The full amount must be in my Solicitors account, before the Court will allow the preparatory work to begin. My son also lives 300 miles away from me, so I must fund this travel each time I see him. All of which I am prepared to do, because I can save for each visit and limit my costs whilst there, however it is this initial expense that I am struggling with.

Can you suggest any organisations that will help towards this cost or any suggestions at all that would help me?

I am absolutely desperate. I spent years demonstrating my committment, through in-direct contact and countless Court Hearings. I would be devastated to learn that this cannot proceed because of a funding issue.

I'm no expert and hope someone else will come on soon to help but didn't want your post to go unanswered. This sounds really stressful Might you be able to find a volunteer signer? Maybe you could put an ad on gumtree or similar to find someone or could you call a college near where you child is and see if the tutor knows of anybody? Just pulling these ideas out of my head but there will be a way and hope you find it soon.
