Chances of special needs for subsequent children?

I am 20 weeks pregnant and this will be my second child with my DP. Our 5 year old DS has ASD and is statemented and fully supported at school.

We have suffered 3 unexplained miscarriages before this pregnancy and now are understandably fearful of the outcome.
I know DP is concerned about this childs chances of having special needs.

Statiscally what are the chances?

Not sure on statistics, but im sure someone will come along soon that knows. I have a 5 year old DD(ASD) and a 1 and a half year old DS (NT). I had concerns as we were going through dx when DS was born, I dont think those concerns go away easily...I still look at DS with sceptical eyes. Just get ready for the adventure...and even more sleepless nights! :)

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy. :)

Of ASD?

We were told 1 in 10 chance if baby is a boy, 1 in 30 for a girl; I've seen other statistics though (wfiw dd1 is NT, ds has ASD, dd2 is NT). I'm 17 week pg with #4 & are going to find out the sex this time, I'm hoping for another girl because the risk is a bit lower but obviously either way it is increased from the population risk (1 in 100ish ?).

We were told that 'if you already have one child with ASD the chances of having another is 30%', not sure how true it is (paed told us). I have 2 dd's with ASD.

Thanks for the replies, this will actually be my number 4 too Phlebas. My older two (NT) are from my first marriage.

I think DP has convinced himself with the ASD and then the miscarriages that the problem lies with him in some way.
He is reluctant to discuss any further forward than actually having a healthy newborn.

I want to be excited but all these worries are wearing us down Sad
