DS 4.7 asd and sld is moving from a ms asd base to ss and he starts on wednesday. I have been taking him due to some problems with the way the transport is done at the ms school, only 5 mins away, this new school is 25mins away if you drive straight there but he getting the bus. Also it was decided it wouldn't be a good idea for him to have a transition visit so he has never been to the school.
I am really nervous about him going, he has no idea as he has no understanding. There are lots of reasons why I am worried, how is he going to be on the bus, how is he going to react to the new school, etc.

Why is it not a good idea to do a transition visit?

What are you worries? Can you list them?

Can you accompany him for the first few days and gradually withdraw? (Bet you could if you insisted)

How did it go today?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you all. DS is in an asd class and is a good 4 years younger than the other children. I have no idea why I was so worried, he loved itGrin and has been so relaxed since. Transport doesn't start till tomorrow though as they have had trouble getting his harness back off the last bus, although the bus and escort came to visit ds this evening to meet him and to check where the house is without me needing to ask, so ds has met them before he goes.
Aparently the last school thought it would confuse ds to have a visit!Hmm
