Ds loves what I did to the bedroom!

He came home and loved it ! Yay

And said he was happy to be back home.. Ripped his clothes off and asked if I could make them soft again ( his dad had washed them).. And has snuggled into his bed all content!

Although did come back loud and really rude as he does when he gets back.. So lots of hand signals on that count.

Defo an interior designer rather than occupational therapist! - Well done. Will be doing DS1 a new bedroom soon, so will ask for tips!

Lol it's the sensory stuff .. Can't wait till ds can have a whole room just for him!

Glad he liked the room and you managed to get it sorted in time.

Dd1 used to come back from dad visits rude and loud and generally horrid. It used to take a couple of days for her to settle at home.

Yup! I'll just get him almost sorted and then he starts back at school.. So we will then start again! Grrrr

How about a sensory interior designer? Less training and much more of a niche in the market

Basically i took the colour out of the room and simplified it.
It's now matt White ( no shiney bits on walls) black curtains ( cuts out all the light).. Furniture is bolted down and there is a dark neutral plain carpet.
There is nothing busy in there.. There is a couple of posters but not so he can see when he's laid down in bed... His bed is in a corner of the room has a set of bedside drawers to seperate his and ds1s areas.
In the other corner of his part of the bedroom is his storage box, black different textured throws and cushions, fidget bag, feely box .. And glow I. The dark bits and bobs... And his soft toys ( some of which are laced with lavender.. Sleeping bag (in it's stuff sack)... Got some hooks up for the new punch bag that is being delivered.
Then there is a shelf thing ( sort of a side board..) that has his audio CDs, cd player, pin art, liquid and sand timers, newtons cradle, and a wind up clock ( so it ticks).

The whole thing really is no colour ( ds doesn't do well
with colour).. Really clear space but can be blacked
out even in the day.

But the clever bit (I think)... Are the lamps and light bulbs.. Main bulb is just a 40 watt.. One lamp has a lilac bulb and the other small is a blue bulb :)

so he can choose to black outthe room.. But have a soft coloured glow of his choice!

Ds1 happens to think it's rather bachalor pad cool lol

Btw I now have a spare hanging seat ( the cloth one from ikea).. That's clean and in good condition.. No inner cushion pad ( didn't get one as it didn't suit ds).. But you can pick these up at ikea... You will need some D-rings to hang it from the ceiling beams.
But ds is too big for it now ( being nearly 7 stone and 5,3")..
So if anyone would like it just shout :)

I have the task of creating dd4 her first own bedroom . We are finally moving to a bigger house so she gets a room to herself.

Have to start from scratch , (apart from her peppa pig bed ) peppa is one of her obsessions. She already has a mood light flower that she got for xmas.And her weighted blanket.

Need to get furniture ect. total budget is £1500. ANY IDEAS ?

I think it depends on if your dd has sensory colour issues, if she is a climber or a wall kicker or a smearer etc..

If ds goes back to kicking Walls I'm going to pad the lower half of the Walls ( using White again).

I wouldn't put too much furniture in the room ( keeping it as spacious as possable, I'd avoid bright colours or lots of different colours in one space.. And if your using the bedroom for sensory stuff as well it's nice to have a seperate corner for that.. Oh and the bed against a corner too if you have space. I don't know why but ds loves to sleep in a corner!

Shes a climber , loves to hang upside down.

Doesnt have colour issues , does have sound issues and feeling issues.(textures ect).LOVES TO SMEAR ANYTHING GOOEY . ( i mean anything ...even poo.)

love the padding for walls !. its such a good idea.

She also likes to escape from the home , so am thinking about cctv and stairgate across the room doorway.

Droves, to combat the smearing I would suggest this stuff. We use it at work and it comes in a whole load of colours.

And is there room for one of these in there for her??

might get her one of those blackout tents for her "safe space" , she loves the toys that light up , especially those rubbery air filled ones that flash when you shake them.

Will get her one of those climbing frames for the garden . We had little tykes ones (jungle climber and the 8 in one) but the idiots downstairs broke them ...so dd never got to play with them much.

New house = no idiot = garden toys yay !

Mermaid board is expensive but well worth it - it actually looks nice (where I work is a newbuild) not like some kind of institution Cheaper alternative is to screw clear perspex onto the walls, but it does look a bit "therapy" lol

You can get indoor climbing frames, but usually for toddlers. I'm sure a decent carpenter/joiner would be able to put some monkey bars up for you, though?

Blackout tent with light-up toys, weighted blanket, textured stuff, lavender wheatie bag and calming music sounds like an awesome sensory room to me
