pregnant and job offer

My sister is about 9 weeks pregnant and has been offered a job which she is sorely tempted by. However, she is also tempted to stay where she is for convenience reasons, in short. She can't do both clearly!

Just talking to her now, I said I would ask the wise women of mumsnet whether anyone else was in the same boat and what they were thinking of doing.

Happy Xmas to you all and your families!

Is she happy where she is? Which will provide the most flexible working conditions?

she wants to ask very carefully what the deal is with maternity leave. I moved jobs when I was about 3 weeks pregnant with my first, and I was not eligible for anything except the government statutory maternity pay, but if I'd been in the job for a few weeks when getting pregnant, I'd have had proper maternity pay.

Might make a big difference...

Are you posting in SN for a reason I'm too pissed busy to remember?
Does your sister already have a child with sn?

Prob best to stay put in terms of mat pay unless new job is a lot better pay or prospects.

Legally she probably has more rights if she stays where she is right now as she is already far enough into the pregnancy to not qualify for maternity pay and would have to claim the government allowance instead. Not exactly sure on the rights of keeping the job open to her after mat leave time though so she'd need to check it out carefully. If she can accept the money issues and the new job is legally protected, plus the new job is a dream job then it is still worth her considering moving jobs I guess.
