Independent Living Fund to be scrapped?

ILA to be scrapped? Can this be right?! I thought this was the fund that allowed disabled people to live in their own homes in the community and kept them out of care homes. Are they all going to be 'put' in homes now?

What the fuck is going on?

we are awaiting a grant
we need that sodding bath

donkeyderby · 13/12/2010 17:24

no, not disabled facilities grant!

I mean the money that allows people to live independently. Like a young person we know....

a man i know has a carer who helps him wiht all personal care, get in & out of bed, shower & dress & then helps him get to work!

Yes this man is a wage earning, tax paying member of the community.
Now i don't know what benefit he is able to claim but if he didn't have the fuinancial support to pay a carer he a) would not live in his own home and b) would not get to work each day.

He would therefore need residential care and be entirely dependant on benefits.

A real false economy cutting these sorts of benifits.

According to a government spokesman 'other' benefits will take its place. Hmm

donkeyderby · 13/12/2010 20:18

yes, but how irresponsible/cruel to announce the end of ILF before knowing WHAT will take it's place. Some disabled people and their carers will be worried to death. Everything is going too fast with this government

I would say irresponsible, cruel and suspicious - but then, I'm no fan of the 'caring' Tories.
