Lets all blame the other 50% of the gene pool

Just spent the last few nights in hospital with DS2 because of his asthma - which is fairly and squarely my DH's genes. Yesterday i was trying to teach my dyspraxic son his 9 times tables using the cheats finger holding down method. He just couldn't get his fingers to bend down well enough to separate his tens from his units. I was holding them down and pulling them around. My DS enjoyed it and found it very funny. I was telling DH in the evening that his curly fingers just couldn't move independently and he enlightened me that neither could his! We then spent ages practising which fingers he could move. he can't do the star trek greeting, spiderman's web making move etc. all very important things to be able to do Blush . But realistically - it's another DH trait inherited.
So many threads i read have inference to DHs now being diagnosed too etc. Just wondered if any of you have the 'blame game' at home too?
BTW - i do not get off scott free - dietary stuff is mine!

Hmm, no. DD is too much like me! (And neither of us is on the spectrum, so I've no idea why she is).

DH and I have quirks aplenty and we're both atopic, so we often say to each other "now that one's from you!" All the dyspraxic stuff and DS2's low tone and hypermobilty definitely comes from me mind

ASD is fairly in DH side BUT as there is a few in my side too, I guess extended genes are on my side too

DS1+2 have DH's freaky arms. They look like they've been put on the wrong way round at the elbows. Really odd.

As my husbands sisters daughter is also downs, my son defo got the extra chromosome from him lol

I contribute to the dyslexic bit, the hyermobility bit, and the hypersensitive hearing! ( that's in both my boys.. And dd without the dyslexia )..
Dh only gets blamed for dd snoring! Lol as he's a step dad to the boys!

However... Every other trait on the social communication delay.. The anger management , the black and White rules based on ones own perspective.. The abisolutly nooooo ToM .... I'll stop now.. Sits squarely on my ex husband!... And his mother! And he gets to contribute to dyslexia too!

:o

i blame dh for all the kids allergies, dd1 heart issue, dd's hyperflexability. everything in fact. he just rolls his eyes at me lol.

Pixel · 23/11/2010 17:54

Dd definitely takes after me with dodgy hips and poor eyesight. Anything else (ds's ASD for instance) gets blamed on dh's side, simply because he doesn't know who his father is so there is no-one to dispute it!

simplysurreal · 23/11/2010 17:55

we are waiting to find out who to blame (blood analysis still pending), we are hoping we are both "blameless" so that our other son doesn't have a 50/50 chance of having it too.

ghoulsforgodot · 23/11/2010 17:56

I reckon having a child with ASD makes you recognise your own autistic traits. (hey we all have them!)
We don't play the blame game but we do like to point out each others traits!

elliejjtiny · 23/11/2010 18:06

DH has aspergers and I'm dyspraxic so we are both responsible. We do still get blamed by people saying we should never have reproduced with our "risk" (sigh)

auntevil · 23/11/2010 18:12

I have to sympathise with Pixels DH. I don't know my birth parents - so i'm always on shaky ground. I'm getting my adoption file opened soon - so i may be opening a can of worms. If it's bad, i may have to stop pointing out DC and DH's similarities! Grin

I think I probably have dyspraxia so ds may get his clumsiness and poor co'ordination from me.
I think the adhd and asd from ex. all his family and extended family say ds is just like him at that age! ex is 30 tomo. when he was getting expelled he was just seen as 'naughty and disruptive'
