Would appreciate some advice on hearing test tomorrow - this will be the 3rd, all others failed.

I think the enless blood tests that have always been traumatic but getting more so each time, are to blame.
Now every test, bar the eye tests, she just freaks.
She will not co-operate, and why should she, with having someone stick something into her ear.

She's ahd loads but the last 2 times they were unable to get accurate readings as she moves.

This will be the 3rd test this time round.

My mum is taking her tomorrow and we've always had to sit her on our lap and keep her arms by her side while the poor audiologist does the test.

Very funny but last time she bucked and squirmed and cried and after it was over she took the whatever it's called that takes the reading and stuck it in her own ear!

We've tried doing the test on mummy and nana and favourite toys etc first, but everything has failed.

Any tips welcome, I'll try them all!

Can she be given the sticky-in-the-ear thingy to examine before she has the test done?

Tell them they'll have to be quick, not to fanny around and get on with it. Tell them they also have one chance and that's it. Ds1 is like this- I've found that if they miss out the preparation "ooh just goiung to stick a little thing in your ear" they were far more likely to get somewhere.

Are you referring to the one which assesses hearing by blowing air into the ear?

Have you tried preparing her with a story with lots of pictures in it?
We sometimes create these for anxious children going to hospital appointments.

It's not the end of the world if she doesn't cooperate though!

maybe seeif she will put it in herself again this time?

would they let her put them in herself and then the audiologist can adjust them a bit once they're in?

I suggested to mum they just give her the stick thing and see if she can get them a reading!

Bribery - hmmm, doesn't really work but will get mum to take the treat of all treats in with her and give her a bag of hula hoops while the test is happening.

And your absolutley right, it's not the end of the world but she does have glue ear and I would like to keep that monitored as it can really effect her speech.

It also took us three goes to get a result with Ds2. One of the things I found helped was telling him a story while he was sitting on my knee. Not trying to read one or anything just something out of my head.

DS kept failing his test too. Not sure how it works where you are but he had to listen to different frequencys and turn to the noise, so each time we went they started with one of the frequencys he hadn't respinded to before rather than keep testing the same ones.

DD failed hers and they put electrodes on her head, have they talked to you about that?

Yes had the electrodes but they have to do those when she is asleep so they don't happen anymore, she's dropped her day time sleeps so impossible to do.

I hope you get good readings tomorrow, you just want to know whats what and the hearing test sems abit hit and miss even with their new fangled equipment.

Well she howled but they got areading and she's fine. Not only is her hearing fine but everyone commented on how much she's come along so smiles all round!
She has a bit of fluid but she's fine and we don't have to go back again until March.

thanks mate. She was saying to the audiologist, 'hello man, sssssshhhhhh, loooooook' (rather than listen!) and sort of hunching her shoulders, raising her eyebrows and pointing her finger into the air! Funny little thing!
