I know exactly what you mean :(

i am so tired of the divorce ones, I realise it is shit if you can't get legal aid to fight it, but I keep mentioning clinical negligence and no one seems to care.
maybe I need to do a it could happen to you thread(or would I get bashed for scaring pregnant women?)

Not at all.

But that's the reality.

People care about things that are happening to them / likely to possibly affect them. Generally. Grin

So those who don't have a disabled family member, well. I doubt the proposed cuts and the effect that'll have is something that even occurs to them.

ime, very many people don't care about the disabled. I mean, they care in a oh you poor thing HOW IS HE DOING THEN? (to you, over his head, because of course disabled = deaf dumb and daft) sort of way, but not in a placard waving, petition signing outraged way.

I don't know why this is. Maybe it's "stick them in an institution" mentality. Perhaps it's S.E.P. (someboy else's problem), I don't know.

But I have learned that if I'm expecting help and support from "out there", I'll be waiting till the cows come home.

We're on our own.

And actually, MN is far better, far more interested, than my entire experience of 'real life'.

That's fucking depressing. Grin

I'm with you on this aswell.

What people don't seem to realise is that they are ( almost). Just as likely to come across SN in their lives as divorce and it dos affect a lot of people.. And it could be them. ( I'm basing this not on ratios but an either it will or won't happen 50/50 basis).. Let's face it none of us on the board thought we would be SN parents!

we're such a small minority, it's hard enough to be heard let alone get support from 'outside'. Sorry, missed the threads on the main board.

willowthecat · 17/11/2010 13:17

I think people fear that if they mention SN to themselves, it will bring it into their lives - the same way people tend to not make wills in case it makes them mortal.

Is it not a case of people are only interested in what will directly affect them. I have to say that I've taken no interest in the defence cuts but have in the SN cuts. Are people not just absorbed in their own lives most of the time.

2shoes · 17/11/2010 15:04

ok so I won't start taht thread, but maybe we need ot post on more threads, so that people actually know that sn can happen to anyone

SN is contagious dontcha know? Noone wants to think/ talk about it incase they catch it. I know for a fact it's contagious, as I've lost 3 friends since DS was born, they seem to have fallen off the face of the earth, so I can only assume they don't want to have to face seeing the reality of my new world or meeting my adorable, gorgeous son Sad.

purplepidjin · 17/11/2010 21:20

lol @ sleepysox

Definitely contagious. My colleague was laughing his arse off earlier because, while the resident I had just helped to the toilet had a splash with soap and water (she loves it, so I try my best to make time when we get changed), I organised all her clothes into specific drawers. It's not so it's easier for me to give a non-verbal woman a proper choice of clothes every morning, no it's infectious Asperger Syndrome lol Grin
