Mainstreem or specialist dyslexic independant school

Hi wondered if anyone has been in a similar position.

My son aged 10 is statemented for 18 hours p/wk plus 8hrs per term specialist teacher. He is currently working at Level 1 in literacy and numeracy so is approx 5years behind his peers. His comprehension/understanding is age appropriate. he is statemented for SPLD, but I think he is dyslexic as still reverses letters and numbers. I have looked round several mainstreem high schools and spoke to senco but just feel that he will not survive there, they mention hover support from staff not 1:1 support which he needs to make any progress.

Does anyone know of any good specialist schools in essex or surrounding areas. Can get access to london via tuble link as well.
Has anyone else managed to get their child sent by LEA to specialist school?

Thanks for reading this.

You could have a look at the following research papers [[http://archneur.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/61/12/1849
Mirror Writing, Left-handedness, and Leftward Scripts (2004)]] and Mirror writing: neurological reflections on an unusual phenomenon (2007)

Topsy - SPLD ( specific learning disability ) is the current term for dyslexia.

My friend has a son who at the end of yr 5 applied for statement- he is diagnosed with dyslexia (Spld)
Statement was given but she also realised he would not survive in MS so appealed it straightaway and went to tribunal and won .He is now at the Moat school in Fulham.
I dont know all the details other than his writing was illegible and he could not read it back, low percentiles etc . You could look down that route of schooling but be prepared for long hard battle. He was in place for the start of yr 7 Look on the SEND website under cases` and you can scroll down and find Spld and how they got on at tribunal

Good luck

Just to add it should be SENDIST and decisions
I also said long hard battle when really it was a whirlwind of nothingto everything in just over a year !!
