Following on my previous thread where i was assisted with my letter to request an assessment of my son. Letter is complete and signed and im not sure how to play it as to wether take it to the meeting tomorow (Senco, camhs, attendance guy, school nurse) and see what school say about applying for an assessment OR just bite the bullet and post it today and give the senco a copy of the letter tomorow?!?

tricky. you will need these people on board. if u think its polite and their input might help then wait. if not send. good luck

You are so lucky to be having a meeting with all those people, IF such a meeting had been held for us at an early date then myDD

may have enjoyed secondary school so much better.

Send the letter today, but can you show SENCO a copy of it tomorrow.

thanks teeluthetruth, initially id planned to take it to the meeting, but then i thought, oh god when do you give it to her at the beginning or the end! Then i thought, what if she bluffs me like they have been for the past year then i might end up being talked out of applying for it! :0(

if you think they're going to talk you out of it, send it today. School don't sound particularly supportive anyway from what you've said and aren't being entirely honest with you. Of course do your best to keep school onside, I'd be up front and tell them at the beginning of the meeting as it might change the way the meeting needs to go iyswim.

Send the letter off to the LEA.

You do not need to give a copy of this to the SENCO.

imahappycamper · 01/11/2010 11:01

I'd send it today. It would probably be polite to at least tell the SENCo that you have done it, but you don't need to show her the letter unless you want to.

ok thankyou, its in an envelope ready, im so worried that his class teacher/senco will get the ump and ask why i didnt tell her! what sort of answer do i give back to that, shes good in that shes very forthright with her comments rather than holding back and making out every is ok with my son like his previous teacher but its knowing what answer to come back with? thankyou

Take it in to the Council Offices and deliver it by hand today. SENCO will not feel agrieved, I am sure.

bigcar · 01/11/2010 11:39

because you decided over half term/weekend this was the best course of action and you didn't see the point of waiting/delaying any longer?

brandy77 · 01/11/2010 11:40

impossible to do that today lucinda, im waiting for 2 hospital calls about him, only be able to pop to post office and hope i dont miss a call, recorded delivery better than normal post?

yes thats a good idea bigcar and now i think of it, i asked the teacher by writing if my son could have 1:1 for 20mins a day to catch up as hes SA+ and she phoned up extremely unhappy that i had demanded this!? and said that she had already planned to set up 1:1 from the following monday, that was in april and it never happened onceSad

Agree with others that you should just send it now, SENCOs can often be cautious and ask you to wait but that just delays things. Definitely send by recorded (and continue to use recorded for any correspondence with the LA).

The SENCO will find out eventually that you've made a request as the LA will ask for more information from the school.

Fingers crossed for you Grin

fightingthezombies · 01/11/2010 18:16

You've done the right thing sending it. I had TAC meeting with all the professionals and said I was going to put in SA request. Senco said - "don't bother - you won't get it. Leave it for a few months". Needless to say I ignored those remarks and have just received the proposed statement. Don't worry about upsetting anyone - it's not their child and you have to do what's best for your ds.
