Would appreciate some advice. Proposed sm has been received and I have to name secondary for next year - fine,we know what we want. However, the sm appears to relate to secondary not juniors and ltr from LA states
that for remainder of time at junior school xx hours of lsa support will be provided. The point of going through assessment was to get support now and I am now thinking that juniors will just muddle along until he leaves. Don't sm's start as soon as they are finalised or is it different in last year at school?

I don't know quite what is meant to happen, but I do know that they have to issue the final statement by February 15th of the transistion year, so the fact that we are in October probably doesn't make it unreasonable. Otherwise, they would have to issue the statement by mid-December, and then ammend it 2 months later.

I know that DD1 got her statement in January 2010 while still in preschool, and it was a statement designed for her special school placement, and it simply said 'x preschool until July 2010, then x special school from Sept 2010'. Her support for preschool continued as it had before the statement was in place.

Have you looked at the IPSEA website? If that doesn't help ring their advice line.
The proposed statement does specify a number of hours at Junior School so that should be provided.
Have you phoned the LA to ask them to clarify the position?

They take force from the date of the Final Statement.

It should cover the arrangments for the remainder of junior school, transition arrangments to secondary and secondary support.

Thanks all. Am seeing an independent adviser tomorrow to go through it all and will then contact LA.
